DKP
("Dragon Kill Points") is a system used to measure guild members participation
in various events that are for the benefit of the guild as a whole. Foundation
uses what is known as a Modified Basic DKP system. This is one of the most
widely used various of a DKP system as it can be customized to suit the
particular needs of a guild at all levels of progression.
This page is designed to give current and prospective members information about how to get, spent, and manage their DKP.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact an officer to discuss your concerns.
About DKP
DKP systems are often a balancing act of a number of conflicting goals. The properties that Foundation considered in devising our system are as follows:
Items should be distributed in a way perceived as fair by the participating
members.
Items should be distributed in a way that increases the overall strength of the
guild, thus making future encounters easier.
Established members who have worked hard toward particular items should be able
to get those items reliably.
New members should be able to receive items as an incentive for guild
membership.
Items should always be distributed to guild members; if items are not
distributed, the guild as a whole misses an opportunity to strengthen.
The system should be relatively easy to administer, explain and understand.
Meeting all these goals at once is difficult and requires compromise and understanding from both current and prospective guild members.
What is a Modified Basic DKP System?
DKP is actually not a single system but a number of competing systems that all use the name "DKP." The most basic of these systems is that each time a boss is defeated, everyone participating in its defeat earns a point. Because some bosses are harder than others, different DKP values may be earned for defeating different monsters. Further, Foundation also awards points for certain non-tangible effects, such as hours in attendance during raids, showing up on time, staying until the end of a raid, and committing personal wealth towards the raid's success. When an item is dropped by a boss, the eligible player with bids the most points gets the first right of refusal on that item. The raid member who takes the item will have his or her DKP account charged for the cost of the item.
How do I gain raid points?
Raid points can be acquired in a number of different ways. Below is the list of ways that Foundation awards raid points:
Raid Attendance
- Time Spent:
Foundation awards raid points time spent in an encounter with or without a boss
kill. The current time/DKP value is 2.00 DKP for each 1 hour spent raiding SSC
and TK and 4.00 DKP for each 1 hour spent raiding Hyjal and BT. Karazhan,
Zul'Aman, Magtheridon, and Gruul's Lair do not award dkp as they are open runs
for Foundation guild members.
Raid Attendance
- Boss Kills:
Foundation awards raid points for each boss kill.
Guild Bank Donations
-
Foundation awards raid point for donations made to the guild bank that help the
guild provide members with needed materials, gear, recipes, etc. Raid points are
awarded based on the guild's current needs and are subject to change. The guild
leader will determine what items the guild bank is accepting and the raid point
value of those items.
Raid Point Bonuses
-
Foundation awards bonus raid points from time to time when the guild as a whole
achieves a goal, including a 3 DKP performance bonus for progression on a new
boss, and/or a 5 DKP bonus for downing a new boss for the first time.
How do I spend raid points?
Raid points can be spent to purchase loot drops during raids or to purchase items from the guild bank.
The table below breaks down the current costs of items acquired by drops:
Karazhan, Zul'Aman, Gruul's Lair, and Magtheridon
There is no DKP awards or costs associated with time spent in or items obtained in Karazhan. However, loot will still be distributed in a fair and equitable manner consistent with Foundation's usual loot distribution procedures.

Guild Bank Withdraws
Players may
also “purchase” items from the guild bank with their DKP. The guild bank
maintains a variety of gear, mats, pots, etc. on hand that guild members may
want to acquire. Guild members may review the bank contents at any in-game
guild bank location. If you would like to “purchase” an item from the bank,
please submit an in-game request to your Class Commander or Foundbank.
Withdrawals require Class Commander approval.
What kind of raid point penalties are there?
Foundation also enforces certain raid point penalties for certain behavior which is detrimental to the success of the raid, or which wastes other members time. Examples of such penalties are as follows:
Signing up and not showing up without prior notification. If you sign up
for a run, it is expected that you will show up on time and ready to go. Members
who show up late or not all are wasting the time of those who signed up and
showed up. Raids are scheduled in advance each week so that members can plan
accordingly and ensure that they are able to attend. If you sign up for a run,
and later find our that you are unable to attend, it is imperative that you
return to the raid sign-ups and cancel your attendance. Because the raid
sign-ups are frozen one hour before each raids invite time, if you find that you
cannot make it and the sign-ups are frozen, you must notify an officer or you
will be charged the penalty. The current penalty is 5 DKP.
Leaving a raid before the scheduled raid end time. Foundation's minimum
raid time is 3 hours. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A RUN IF YOU CANNOT STAY FOR THE
DURATION OF THE RAID. Leaving a raid early disrupts
the flow of the raid and means that raid leaders then have to scramble to find
replacements while the rest of the group waits. Again, this goes back to the
whole consideration concept and being considerate of your fellow guild mates is
not only expected in Foundation, but is required. The
current penalty is 5 DKP.
Showing up late to invites. When you show up late to invites, you hold
up the entire progress of the 9 or 24 other raiding members waiting for you.
Such disrespect of other people's time will not be tolerated and, as such, a DKP
penalty will be applied to any member who chooses to disrespect their guild
mates in such a fashion. The current penalty is 5 DKP.
Leaving the guild. Foundation understands that there will be times when
people will choose to explore other options available to them in or out of the
world of Azeroth. Provided that you have followed the guild policy regarding
leaving the guild, we may take you back when you come to your senses =D. Should
we choose to take you back into the guild the penalty for leaving is that you
lose half of whatever DKP you had acquired prior to your departure. If you are
out of the guild for a period of two weeks or more, you will NOT retain ANY of
your prior DKP. The current penalty is 50% of your total
DKP at the time that you left if you return within two weeks, or 100% if you are
out of the guild for two weeks or more.
Disrespect. Acting out, not paying
attention, going AFK without permission, not following instructions, needlessly
wiping the group, and other such ass-hat antics will generally result in some
sort of raid point penalty as determined by the officers and the raid leader.
The penalty for such behaviors will vary depending on the severity of the
violation and the number of prior times you may have done the same type of
things.
Extended Leaves of Absence.
Foundation understands that there may be times when guild members
have to step away to deal with real-life issues. If you find yourself in
this situation, you will be eligible for a return of DKP if, and only if, you
have discussed your leave of absence with the Guild Leader or a Guild Advisor
prior to leaving. In addition, you must be able to articulate when you
expect to return to Foundation. At no time will we approve a return of DKP
for a leave of absence lasting longer than three consecutive months.
Hence, if you are out of the guild, offline, or otherwise not participating in
the guild for a period of more than 3 consecutive months, you will not be able
to retain your DKP.
